Just like any other browser, Mozilla Firefox stores all the significant stuff on your computer that is required for its functioning. If you’re a power Firefox user with lots of data and information stored over time, then it would become a nightmare for you to manually input all the browsing information, add-ons, passwords and other data, in case you decide to format your Windows, make some critical changes to Firefox settings, or just wish to move Firefox to a new computer.

Similar to MozBackup, Firefox Backup Tool is a simple and efficient tool for Windows that lets you completely backup your Firefox browser. It can easily backup all the important Firefox configuration, including user preferences, bookmarks, extensions, browsing history, form history, saved passwords, cookies, etc. as a single backup file on your system. You can also add a password to the backup file to secure it. The Firefox backup created can be restored anytime using the same tool and you need to input the correct password if added while taking a backup.

It’s advisable NOT to restore a 32-bit backup file to a 64-bit version of Firefox, as some of the 32-bit add-ons might not be compatible with a 64-bit build. Firefox Backup Tool is a freeware, currently supports Windows (both x86 and x64 versions).

Earlier, Mozilla used to release new Firefox builds with a big time difference but lately they’re in a rush to push Firefox to a higher build version. Seems they are trying hard to cope up with the build numbers of Google Chrome and IE. After releasing 6 beta versions of Firefox 7, the Final version of Firefox 7 is now available for download via their FTP site. Official announcement will go soon, get it for Windows, Linux and Mac!

Firefox 7.0 aims to enhance your browsing experience by improving one of its major drawback, i.e. high memory consumption. The latest and new Firefox 7.0 drastically improves the usage of memory (RAM) and is said to consume 20-30% less memory than former builds of Firefox browser.

Changelog based on the recent beta of Firefox 7:

Vastly improved memory usage (up to 50% better) and increased speed

Added a new rendering backend to speed up Canvas operations on Windows systems

Bookmark and password changes now sync almost instantly when using Firefox Sync

Added support for text-overflow: ellipsis

Added support for the Web Timing specification

Added an opt-in system for users to send performance data back to Mozilla to improve future versions of Firefox. This can be enabled by installing an add-on

Fixed several stability issues

The Final build of Firefox 7 is scheduled to be officially released within 24 hours. You can download it now using the direct download links (English) below.

Certainly, there are various Google+ extensions for Google Chrome browser unlike Firefox. I just came to know about a Firefox add-on which is actually not related with Google+ but just lets you easily +1 any site or webpage directly from address bar in Firefox. The +1 button is a shorthand for "this is pretty cool" or "you should check this out."

Plus One Button extension for Firefox lets you recommend any favourite site or interesting stuff by clicking the +1 button from address bar. You can +1 any webpage using this add-on without waiting for the webmaster of the site to add +1 button first. The +1’s made using this extension appears in the +1’s tab on your Google+ profile. You can do +1 and Undo +1 using this button (shows +1 counts too). Your +1′s can help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search Google.

It comes as a surprise that Firefox 5.0 has undergone faster development unlike the former Firefox 4 build that gone through 12 Beta and 2 RC builds prior to release of its final version. After releasing 7 Betas of Firefox 5, Mozilla has now released the final build of Firefox 5.0 (available for download via FTP server) and the official release of browser is expected on June 21. Firefox 5 Final can be downloaded for Windows, Mac and Linux in various languages. Try out this latest build if you can’t hold yourself!

Certainly, no GUI changes are made in Firefox 5 and you will notice exactly the same design as in Firefox 4. At this time, most of the Add-ons seems to be incompatible with Firefox 5. This latest stable version offers more stability and improvements than the former test builds. So, Download it and upgrade your current version of Firefox.

Mozilla has just released the much awaited Firefox 5 Beta, which is actually Firefox 5 Beta 2 Candidate Build 1 and is only available via Mozilla’s FTP site. Initially, test releases of Firefox are delivered through the Nightly and Aurora channel, where users can try the latest features and innovations, that are improved in the future beta and final releases.

The Beta 2 Candidate of Firefox 5.0 is out and is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. Certainly, this latest beta version will offer more stability and improvements than the former test builds. The beta comes with the new Channel Switcher feature, letting users easily switch to the aurora channel and back to the beta channel.

If you’re on the Aurora channel of Firefox browser then you can update to current Beta by switching the channel to Beta. To do this, click the orange Firefox button, open Help > About Firefox. Then click the ‘Change’ link and select the Beta update channel, click Apply and Update. Firefox will then download the required updates and install them.

Note: This release is NOT the final beta of the next version of Firefox. This build is a copy of aurora re-packaged as beta for testing.

We previously shared a detailed guide on ‘How to Download Music/Songs from Grooveshark for Free’ and a simple program called “SciLor’s grooveshark.com Downloader” which did the same task in an easier way. Perhaps, both our previous tips were quite uneasy for novice users and required to undergo a bunch of steps to attain the result. Eventually, a new Firefox add-on is here which makes this job really simple and lets users download songs from Grooveshark in MP3 format directly without any hassle.

Groove Shredder is an extension for Firefox that enables you to download music for Free directly from Grooveshark.com, a very popular and amazing online music service. Upon playing the desired music file, the add-on directly shows a window pop-up to save the selected audio file in MP3 format. One can change the file name before saving and the default filename can be customized in the preferences. It also adds a button to navigation toolbar which allows you to easily toggle Groove Shredder on or off.

However, it seems the song being downloaded wont start playing online at Grooveshark until the download is completed or has been cancelled. Also, the downloading cannot be paused and resumed later which occurs because GS is a live streaming music service.

Note: This is an early release of this extension and it may not work properly every time. Therefore, the author asks to submit your Feedback and bug reports if any.

After having hands on OS X, I went straight off to download Firefox and Chrome browser on my MacBook Pro because the default pre-installed Safari browser has not been my choice ever. After running Firefox 4 on MAC, I noticed that some very handy features were missing from its Mac version too like ‘Save Tabs and Exit’.

Similar was the case with Firefox 4 for Windows, for which we provided a simple solution that works perfectly. But applying the same trick of setting
browser.showQuitWarning
value to true in about:config doesn’t enables the ‘Save and Quit’ option in FF4 on OSX.

Don’t worry, I’ve figured out an alternate way that brings this nifty option back to Firefox 4 on Mac OS X. To save tabs on closing Firefox, DO NOT close it using the red x located at the top left corner of browser window. Instead, move your cursor to Firefox icon on the dock (assuming Firefox is pinned to Dock), right-click it, and select Quit. (Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Command + Q to quickly save and quit Firefox).

Note: If you’re using a MacBook or MacBook Pro, then secondary click with 1 finger or secondary tap with 2 fingers using the Trackpad to right-click Firefox icon on Dock.

Upon selecting Quit button you’ll be presented with the old message asking ‘Do you want Firefox to save your tabs’. Clicking ‘Save and Quit’ will restore all the closed tabs when you start Firefox next time. Hope you found this tip useful. Related Posts:
