Firefox Home

Firefox Home is a free app for iPhone/iPod touch/iPad developed by Mozilla. The app is not a full browser but allows users to view webpages from saved tabs and bookmarks. Particularly, it syncs the Firefox history, bookmarks and open tabs, just as you had left them on your desktop computer. It is secure and lets you view the sites directly in Firefox Home, open them in Mobile Safari or share them with friends via email.

Getting Started Guide:

If you have Firefox Sync on your desktop, skip to step #3.

1. Install Firefox Sync, a free add-on for Firefox, on your desktop.
2. Restart Firefox and follow prompts to create an account with both a password and a secret phrase.
3. Go the App Store on your iPhone and search for “Firefox Home” or install it directly from iTunes.
4. Launch Firefox Home on your iPhone. You’ll be prompted to enter your Firefox Sync account info. Enter your username, password and Secret Phrase and tap “Done”.
5. All your open tabs, bookmarks and history will be imported. Enjoy!

To Transfer and Save the Apps from your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to computer, follow the easy tutorial below:

1. Connect your device and launch iTunes.

2. Choose your idevice from Devices menu in iTunes. Right-click your device and select the Sync option.

3. A dialog box will open as shown below. Select “Transfer Purchases”.

Authorize your computer if iTunes asks.

Alternatively, you can directly select ‘Transfer Purchases’ option from right-click menu.

4. Now all your idevice apps will be copied to your computer. Also, Apps menu can be seen under Library in iTunes.

That’s it. Now your Apps are backed up and saved on your computer. Enjoy!

Note – iPhone OS software updates are only stored on computer, when you update your idevice automatically using the Update process in iTunes.

How to Find iPhone OS software on Windows - First enable ‘Show hidden files and folders’ option from Folder options. Now open the directory as per your Windows:

Location on Windows 7 & Vista: C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

Location on Windows XP: Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

You’ll now see iPhone/iPod/iPad Software Updates file with a .ipsw extension, if present.

How to Find iPhone OS software on Mac – iTunes saves the firmware file in hidden folder on Mac. To access firmware files, type the following command in terminal.

Open a Terminal and type: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE then type killall Finder 

Now navigate to usr/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/

You’ll now see iPhone/iPod/iPad Software Updates file with a .ipsw extension.

Note – All the iPhone applications are saved on your computer if they were downloaded and installed straight using iTunes. However, if the apps are installed directly on idevice using Wi-Fi or 3G, then you must first Sync the device with your system (using iTunes) to find the installation files on your computer.

To locate the Apps on Windows, launch iTunes. Now click the ‘Apps’ option under Library. Right-click on any app and click the ‘Show in Windows Explorer’ link.

The directory where iPhone apps are saved on Windows will now open, and all the apps will appear with an .ipa extension.

Alternatively, you can access setup files of installed apps by opening this directory in Windows explorer. C:\Users\User\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications

To locate the Apps on Mac, launch iTunes. Now click the ‘Apps’ option under Library. Right-click on any app and click the ‘Show in Finder’ link.

Alternatively, you can access setup files of installed apps by opening this directory on your Mac. usr/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications
