HTC One X is the first Android smartphone to feature a quad core processor. Besides that it comes with the latest Android 4.0 Ice cream sandwich, 4.7” HD display, 1GB of RAM, 8 megapixel camera, Full HD video recording, an authentic sound with Beats Audio, and much more. Here’s a good news for HTC One X owners, the LTE version of device has got 1-Click Root thus offering a feasible root solution for AT&T, Rogers HTC One X.

Credit goes to XDA Developers member kennethpenn, who has managed to provide a simple and 1-click root method for HTC One X. This will root your One X, install Busybox, and install the SuperSU application for rights management. It won’t unlock the device bootloader. Carefully follow the below instructions to proceed with rooting –

1. Download and install the HTC mobile phone drivers on your Windows system.

2. Download the root.zip file. (Mirror 1 | Mirror 2)

3. Then Extract root.zip into a directory on your computer.

4. Plug your HTC One X into your computer via USB. It’s recommended to plug your device’s USB cable into the back of your computer if using a desktop PC.

5. Enable USB Debugging on your HTC One X. This can be done from Settings > Developer Options > check USB debugging option.

6. Double click root.bat to run the script. (On Windows)

Linux users: double click root-linux.sh.

Mac users: double click root-mac.sh.

7. That’s it. Your device will reboot a number of times and then it should eventually have full root access. Enjoy!

Check the official thread at XDA for more info.

The Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) OTA update for Galaxy Nexus (GSM/HSPA+) started rolling out back in late March but only for a handful of users. The OTA update has been pushed to most Galaxy Nexus with product name as ‘yakju’, but still a lot of Google updated Galaxy Nexus haven’t got it as these updates are region specific. It should be noted that devices with yakju product code are updated directly by Google while the non-yakju ones are applicable to receive updates from Samsung which are apparently delayed by a couple of weeks. So, if you cant wait for the Galaxy Nexus OTA Android 4.0.4 update anymore, then you can opt to manually install the update.

See: [Check if your Galaxy Nexus is updated by Google or Samsung?]

Google has officially released the "yakju" factory images for Galaxy Nexus "maguro" (GSM/HSPA+) which are meant to be flashed manually only on yakju version. However, there is a 100% working trick to Install the official Android 4.0.4 yakju update on yakjuxw version of Galaxy Nexus. This would also change your Galaxy Nexus from yakjuxw to yakju which is indeed good as your device would then be eligible to receive official OTA updates directly from Google and Not Samsung.

Disclaimer: Try this guide at your own risk! We wont be responsible in case your device gets bricked. This may also void your warranty.

NOTE:

1. This process requires to unlock bootloader which will wipe/factory reset your phone.
2. Your phone should have Official Stock firmware running and Not a custom ROM.
3. Your Galaxy Nexus device name should be maguro (See how to check that)
4. This procedure is meant only for GSM/HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus.

~ We’re going to perform this entire task using Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit, a reliable and easy tool to root, unlock, backup apps + data, and flash .img files on Galaxy Nexus.

Tutorial – Installing Android 4.0.4 Update on Galaxy Nexus (YAKJUXW model)

Step 1 – This is the most crucial step among the entire task. You need to install and configure the ADB and Fastboot drivers on your Windows system. Follow our guide on [Installing ADB & Fastboot Drivers for Galaxy Nexus using Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit]

Step 2 – Take a backup of your installed apps (with data) and SD card contents. Check our article, [How to Backup Galaxy Nexus Apps & Data without Rooting]

Step 3 – After you’ve configured the drivers properly and performed a backup, it’s time to unlock the bootloader. Follow our [Guide to Unlock Samsung Galaxy Nexus Bootloader]

Step 4 – Download the below files:

Download 4.0.4 (<strike>IMM76D</strike> IMM76I) Official “Yakju” factory Image (Direct Link)

– Extract this .tgz file to your desktop using archive program like WinRAR. Then rename this file and add a .zip extension to it. Extract the file to a folder on your desktop. Then open the folder and extract the file (image-yakju-imm76d.zip) to the same folder.

Download Fastboot and ADB files (XDA) – Extract the files to the same folder (fastboot-and-adb) on your desktop.

Step 5 – Installing Android 4.0.4 and Flashing the ‘YAKJU’ Firmware

1. Enable USB Debugging on your phone and connect it to computer via USB. (Make sure it is charged.)

2. Open Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit (Run as Administrator), select your device model (CDMA or GSM) and click on ‘List devices’ to verify that the connection is stable. Then select the ‘fastboot-bootloader’ option and click on ‘Reboot Bootloader’.

3. Your phone should now boot into Bootloader mode. Get ready for flashing!

To flash the Image files that you extracted in Step 4, select the ‘Flash (Permanent)’ option from the Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit. Next,

- Click on the System option and select ‘system.img’ file from the folder yakju-imm76d.

- Click on Userdata option and select ‘userdata.img’.

- Click on Boot option and select ‘boot.img’.

- Similarly, click on recovery and select ‘recovery.img’.

4. Erase the cache partition. This has to be done via CMD.

To erase cache, right-click the folder ‘fastboot-and-adb’ while holding down the Shift key. Click on ‘Open command window here’.

A command prompt window will open up. Simply type fastboot.exe and hit enter. Then type fastboot erase cache to wipe the cache.

Reboot – Then type the command fastboot reboot and hit enter. That’s it!

Your device should now boot up normally and present up with the new Android 4.0.4 update and ‘yakju’ firmware that will offer prompt updates directly from Google. You can confirm the product version using the ‘GN updater checker’ app. Restore the backup that you created in step 2 to get back all your installed apps along with their data.

What’s new in 4.0.4 – The latest Android 4.0.4 update for Galaxy Nexus offers stability improvements, better camera performance, smoother screen rotation, improved phone number recognition and more. We also noticed a significant improvement in battery life after upgrading to 4.0.4.

Enjoy the more awesome Ice Cream Sandwich on your GNex now!

P.S. We’ve tried the above tutorial on our Galaxy Nexus and it worked perfectly. Do let us know if you face any issues while going through the described process.

It’s time for Instagram users to delight as they can now view their Instagram photos directly in a browser using Webbygram, a web version of the most popular photo sharing service ‘Instagram’. Instagram was recently acquired by Facebook for a whooping $1 billion and their newly launched Android app has already crossed 10 million downloads.

Webbygram is a free and great web service developed by Brenden Mulligan, that offers an alternate and efficient way to view your Instagram stream from web using a desktop, laptop, etc. which was till date accessible <strike>only</strike> via Instagram mobile apps, available for iOS and Android. Fortunately, it’s now possible to see Instagram images on big screen through this unofficial web version of Instagram. Webbygram boasts a simplistic and neat interface, displays Instagram timeline in chronological order as seen on the official mobile app and it overcomes the limitation of using apps.

You can easily view the number of likes and comments for a specific picture, image caption and liking a photo is a click away. Clicking on an individual photo opens its particular webpage where one can post comments or quickly share the post to social networks. By default, webbygram shows ‘Popular Photos’ but you can login using your Instagram username and password (requires OAuth) to view your Instagram stream. You can even share your Instagram profile online, accessible through Webbygram. For instance, catch my instagram updates at webbygram.com/user/mayurjango.

Frankly speaking, I was badly looking for a similar service. Webbygram is really amazing and delivers a Instagram like experience. Do give it a try out!

Android offers an easy way to toggle various system settings directly from the notifications bar at top or using the stock ‘Power Control’ widget. However, one big limitation is that only a couple of options are integrated for quick access which cant be altered in anyway unless you’re using a custom ROM on your device. We’ve discovered a great app which overcomes this hassle and doesn’t involves rooting.

Powerful Control is a free and nifty app/widget that serves a perfect replacement for the default power control widget on Android. It offers a set of multi-in-one widgets that makes it easier to toggle system settings. You can place desired individual widgets on your home screen for Wi-Fi, mobile data, Bluetooth, screen rotation, screen brightness, silent mode, vibrate mode, airplane mode, GPS, and sync.

The app also includes a enhanced version of power control widget, with an elegant interface and additional options that aren’t found in the default Android widget. Additional system options that you can quickly toggle on/off with powerful control widget include: Mobile data, screen rotation, silent mode, vibrate mode, and Airplane mode.

You can change the widget panel options and their placement easily via drag and drop. The powerful control widget possibly shows upto 7 system options which is more than enough. If you wish to add rest of them then simply add their specific widgets. This tool enables you to toggle mobile data with one click, without messing up your APNs.

ICS Ready – Powerful Control works perfectly with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It offers the ability to add the system settings in the notification bar on devices like Galaxy Nexus. You can simultaneously use all of the 3 widgets provided you’ve ICS loaded on your phone. To get the traditional notification bar on ICS devices, open powerful control app, click on tools icon and enable notification widgets option. You can also customize the notification widgets as desired. It should be noted that a small icon shows up at the top bar when this feature is enabled.

One downside is that the app shows Leadbolt adware which is said to appear once in a week as stated. But that’s not an issue considering it’s a free and good application.

Try it now! Download Powerful Control [Google Play]

~ This app is quite new, so don’t forget to spread the word if you like it.

Android offers the functionality to quickly toggle settings for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, brightness, sound, sync, etc. directly from the notification bar or power control widget but not for the data connection. This makes it pretty uneasy for users who frequently access web on their device through 2G/3G/4G, as they’ve to tap multiple times just to turn on/off the data packet (from Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks > Data enabled.) That’s where ‘Data Enabler Widget’ comes to rescue!

Data Enabler Widget is a free and handy app for Android devices that does a simple but efficient job. It is a smart and elegant widget that adds the ability to enable/disable the mobile data with 1-click, without messing up the APNs. By adding this small widget to your homescreen, you can toggle the "Data enabled" setting quickly and easily. The bottom of widget icon turns blue/green when it’s on and turns grey when disabled. It’s a nifty widget and works perfectly, tried on Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.0.4.

After installing the app, you simply need to normally add its widget on home screen.

Google’s Galaxy Nexus (GT-I9250) ships with a locked bootloader, thus posing a big restriction on the modification of device software. It’s impossible to root your device or install any custom ROM on it unless the device bootloader is unlocked. So, let’s see how you can unlock your Galaxy Nexus with ease using Wug’s Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit.

Note: Unlocking will wipe your entire device data, apps, settings, SD card contents, etc. It’ll factory reset your device, so it’s recommended to take a proper backup first. [See: How to Backup Galaxy Nexus Apps & Data without Rooting]

- Unlocking may also void your device warranty. Be sure before proceeding.

Tutorial – Unlocking Galaxy Nexus Bootloader

1. Make sure you’ve taken a backup of your entire device data.

2. Download Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit and install it on your computer.

3. Important – You now need to configure ADB and Fastboot drivers for your Galaxy Nexus using the toolkit. Follow this detailed tutorial carefully to setup the drivers.

4. Now enable USB Debugging on your device and connect it to computer via USB. Then open the toolkit (Run as Administrator).

5. In Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit, select your device model (CDMA or GSM) and click the ‘Unlock’ option. A command prompt window will open up, press any key to continue.

6. The device should now reboot into bootloader. A screen titled ‘Unlock Bootloader’ will appear on your phone. Select ‘Yes’ to unlock (use volume keys to navigate and power key to make your selection.)

7. The unlocking process will start and the device will soon boot up.

Voila, GN should be unlocked now! You can confirm that by rebooting bootloader and check the device lock state. More easier way to determine it is by rebooting your device normally and look for a small lock image on initial boot screen.

You can now flash the latest stock Android release without rooting the device.
