At the second day of BUILD conference, Microsoft presented a number of enhancements to its developer tools and technologies. The developer preview of Windows Server 8 is now available to testers, along with developer preview builds of Visual Studio 11 and .NET Framework 4.5, only for those with a MSDN subscription.

Windows Server 8: The Cloud-Optimized Server Operating System

Windows Server 8 applies Microsoft’s experience building and operating the Windows Azure public cloud to provide a cloud-optimized operating system focused on delivery of applications, interoperability within today’s diverse IT environments, high-performance virtualization and strong links to public clouds.

Windows Server 8 provides multi-tenant infrastructure for cloud services with significant enhancements to help reduce the costs of high availability and to automate service management. As an open application and Web platform that shares common management, identity and development tools with Windows Azure, Windows Server 8 empowers developers and IT professionals to deliver services across their choice of private and public cloud environments, or a combination of both.

The Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview is now available for MSDN subscribers. The files live include Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview, Team Foundation Server Developer Preview and the .NET Framework 4.5 Developer Preview. At BUILD event yesterday, Microsoft demonstrated how developers can create Metro style apps directly from their Windows 8 powered tablets using the all new Visual Studio 2011.

MSDN subscribers can download the preview today as well as the new release of .NET Framework 4.5 Developer Preview. The general availability is on Friday, September 16.

Visual Studio 11 provides an integrated development experience that spans the entire lifecycle of software creation from architecture to code creation, testing and beyond. This release adds support for Windows 8 and HTML 5, enabling you to target platforms across devices, services and the cloud.  Integration with Team Foundation Server enables the entire team to collaborate throughout the development cycle to create quality applications.

Visual Studio 11 includes a set of templates that get you started quickly developing Metro style applications with JavaScript, C#, VB or C++.

.NET 4.5 has focused on top developer requests across all our key technologies, and includes new features for Asynchronous programming in C# and Visual Basic, support for state machines in Windows Workflow, and increased investments in HTML5 and CSS3 in ASP.NET.

SP1 Beta of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 is now available from Microsoft. Service Pack 1 Beta is available only for IT Professionals and Developers and not for home users.

Microsoft has today announced the availability of final builds of Visual Studio 2010 & .NET Framework 4. Visual studio comes in 4 editions namely – Professional, Premium, Ultimate, and Test Professional. Its full trial version is now available for free download.
