After a while, Firefox browser might tend to encounter issues like slowdown, errors, sudden crashes, unwanted toolbars, etc. making it difficult to enjoy a clean, safe and faster browsing environment. Luckily, Mozilla has finally coped up with this problem by introducing a smart and easy way to Reset Firefox in the latest beta version of Firefox. Firefox 13 Beta with new ‘Reset’ feature offers the ability to restore Firefox to its default factory state without re-installing and while saving your essential information.

Certainly, this is a great addition to Firefox as users would now be able to fix most issues simply by resetting and without requiring any type of manual troubleshooting. Resetting doesn’t hard reset the browser, it works by creating a new profile folder while preserving your Bookmarks, Browsing history, Passwords, Cookies, and form auto-fill information. To make the restoration seamless and effective, Firefox does not saves your extensions/ add-ons, themes, open tabs/windows, tab groups, download history, and more.

To reset Firefox to its default configuration, click on the Firefox button located at top-left corner, open the Help sub-menu and select ‘Troubleshooting Information’. Then click on the ‘Reset Firefox’ button, a confirmation window will appear, tap to continue. Upon resetting, Firefox will list the information imported. Click Finish to open!

Note: The ‘Reset Button’ is currently available in Firefox 13 Beta. If you’re looking to reset preferences on current stable build of Firefox, then follow this guide by Mozilla.

~ Firefox Beta can be downloaded here.

Just like any other browser, Mozilla Firefox stores all the significant stuff on your computer that is required for its functioning. If you’re a power Firefox user with lots of data and information stored over time, then it would become a nightmare for you to manually input all the browsing information, add-ons, passwords and other data, in case you decide to format your Windows, make some critical changes to Firefox settings, or just wish to move Firefox to a new computer.

Similar to MozBackup, Firefox Backup Tool is a simple and efficient tool for Windows that lets you completely backup your Firefox browser. It can easily backup all the important Firefox configuration, including user preferences, bookmarks, extensions, browsing history, form history, saved passwords, cookies, etc. as a single backup file on your system. You can also add a password to the backup file to secure it. The Firefox backup created can be restored anytime using the same tool and you need to input the correct password if added while taking a backup.

It’s advisable NOT to restore a 32-bit backup file to a 64-bit version of Firefox, as some of the 32-bit add-ons might not be compatible with a 64-bit build. Firefox Backup Tool is a freeware, currently supports Windows (both x86 and x64 versions).

Certainly, there are lot of free File Sharing sites that allow users to upload their data to cloud and share it easily with their family, friends, co-workers, etc. However, most services lets you share stuff via their web interface only, which isn’t much convenient for users who frequently upload & share files across the web. Luckily, I got to know about a great web service that is a perfect alternative to CloudApp, an app for Mac.

Minus is an amazing and fast file sharing platform that allows users to simply upload, manage and share photos, music, documents and files. It is a cross-platform program, available as a desktop application for Windows, Mac and Ubuntu. Minus is available for popular mobile platforms – Android and iOS (coming soon for WP7), and has browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox. Minus is Absolutely Free! Just create an account at Minus in less than 5 seconds and you’re all set to use it efficiently.

Key Features include -

Get 10 GB of free space

Share Large Files up to 2 GB each

Unlimited Downloads and Transfer

Use Dashboard to manage your uploaded stuff

Profile to publish and share your files and folders (example)

Minus is very handy and useful because it makes sharing files real simple & quick. One can easily batch upload files using its web interface or use its desktop app that offers the ability to ‘drag and drop’ photos and files into the taskbar and instantly upload onto Minus. It currently supports files such as images, PDF, text docs, music and videos.

Minus application for desktop comes with built-in Screen Capture support which is indeed a great add-on. Hence, it eliminates the need to first take a screenshot using a dedicated program, then save and lastly upload it to web for sharing. With Minus, just Take screenshot quickly using a user-defined hotkey and it will upload it automatically. Once the file is uploaded, a pop-up shows up and the file share link gets copied to the clipboard which you can share with anyone (Private by default).

The desktop app has a simple and cool interface, with Dashboard providing access to all the files uploaded and lets you manage them. You can delete files, toggle Public/Private, set a caption for files folder. You can even drag a bunch of files from desktop or explorer to an existing folder or gallery.

Minus on Web – The web interface of Minus is also pretty impressive and easy-to-use. The Dashboard displays your files, activity, lets you explore and search all the cool publicly shared stuff. You can choose between several display modes and switch between light and dark background with Lights On/Off option. Users can upload files (drag n drop), edit the file name, download files, get a shortlink for your files. It also displays the storage usage, number of folder views and total hits to your profile.

Furthermore, Minus allows you to Edit images in browser with Aviary. You can simply add effects to your photos in just a single click, rotate, resize, crop, remove redeye, sharpen, add text, etc.

It’s Reliable – Minus uses the latest Cloud computing technologies. They are fully deployed on Amazon’s EC2 and S3 Cloud storage. Minus keeps all files indefinitely unless deleted by the uploader or if it violates their terms of service.

Minus for iPhone, iPad and Android devices, allows you to upload files and photos to Minus from your mobile device, directly from the app or from the share menu. It keeps a history of uploaded files and galleries. You can login into account to access your files.

Minus Firefox and Chrome extension – Allows you to take screenshots of your browser and auto-uploading them to your account. Additionally you can browse your galleries with this extension.

Earlier, Mozilla used to release new Firefox builds with a big time difference but lately they’re in a rush to push Firefox to a higher build version. Seems they are trying hard to cope up with the build numbers of Google Chrome and IE. After releasing 6 beta versions of Firefox 7, the Final version of Firefox 7 is now available for download via their FTP site. Official announcement will go soon, get it for Windows, Linux and Mac!

Firefox 7.0 aims to enhance your browsing experience by improving one of its major drawback, i.e. high memory consumption. The latest and new Firefox 7.0 drastically improves the usage of memory (RAM) and is said to consume 20-30% less memory than former builds of Firefox browser.

Changelog based on the recent beta of Firefox 7:

Vastly improved memory usage (up to 50% better) and increased speed

Added a new rendering backend to speed up Canvas operations on Windows systems

Bookmark and password changes now sync almost instantly when using Firefox Sync

Added support for text-overflow: ellipsis

Added support for the Web Timing specification

Added an opt-in system for users to send performance data back to Mozilla to improve future versions of Firefox. This can be enabled by installing an add-on

Fixed several stability issues

The Final build of Firefox 7 is scheduled to be officially released within 24 hours. You can download it now using the direct download links (English) below.

The social networking giant Facebook, recently introduced a whole lot of new features, most of which seems inspired from Google+. Facebook has made it easier to share stuff with who you want, bigger photos with faster loading, Improved Friend Lists, Subscribe option. Just yesterday, Facebook introduced News Feed that shows up Top stories and Recent stories from your stream. There’ve also integrated a Ticker in right sidebar at the top that shows updates and activity from your friends in real-time.

Apparently, most Facebook users aren’t really impressed with the New Facebook layout saying that it’s confusing and tough to handle the bloat of updates being bombarded now. The new Real-time Ticker in sidebar pushes feeds instantaneously just like Twitter. If you’re finding the Ticker annoying and want to get a bit of OLD Facebook layout back, then you can easily get rid of that ticker in Google Chrome and Firefox browser.

Hide Facebook SideBar Ticker (For Chrome)

This is a handy extension for Chrome that disables the ticker and prevents if from appearing in sidebar on Facebook. It even hides the sponsored ads shown in sidebar.

Remove Facebook Sidebar Ticker (For Firefox)

This is a userscript for Firefox that removes the new annoying ticker from the sidebar. It requires Greasemonkey add-on to be installed.

SoundCloud is a popular online audio distribution platform which allows musicians and artists to Create, Record and Share their music anywhere with their friends, family and the world.
One can listen to the music online for Free at SoundCloud and there is also an option to download and save the MP3 file to your computer. However, some songs don’t have the Download option as downloading is restricted by the uploader or due to some other limits, like when the free download limit is reached and the uploader don’t wants to pay for extra bandwidth. Fortunately, there are some handy extensions for Google Chrome and Firefox that allows you to download any song from SoundCloud which are set as “listen only”.

Certainly, there are various Google+ extensions for Google Chrome browser unlike Firefox. I just came to know about a Firefox add-on which is actually not related with Google+ but just lets you easily +1 any site or webpage directly from address bar in Firefox. The +1 button is a shorthand for “this is pretty cool” or “you should check this out.”

Plus One Button extension for Firefox lets you recommend any favourite site or interesting stuff by clicking the +1 button from address bar. You can +1 any webpage using this add-on without waiting for the webmaster of the site to add +1 button first. The +1’s made using this extension appears in the +1’s tab on your Google+ profile. You can do +1 and Undo +1 using this button (shows +1 counts too). Your +1′s can help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search Google.
