Google recently added 2 new themes “Preview” and “Preview (Dense)” to Gmail Themes gallery which according to Google, gives a preview of the future of Gmail. These new themes offers a light, modern, and a much cleaner look that Gmail will be getting in few upcoming months. I found the Preview (Dense) theme far better than Preview because it utilizes less space and looks good when compared to the latter one.

Just today, I noticed that Gmail started showing a red link “Preview Gmail’s new look” that describes Google’s approach to email. Now, if you’ve switched to one the above discussed themes, then a yellow colored sponsored link floating at the bottom of your email list must have caught your attention. The ad is a sleek one but is more than enough to distract you and stain Gmail’s look. Unfortunately, neither Webmail AdBlocker nor AdBlock Plus were successful in hiding this Web Clip.

Don’t worry, one of our Google+ friend Manuel Feliciano has figured out a real easy way to get rid of that hideous ad from Gmail’s new theme. To remove the Ad clip, just go to Gmail Settings, tap on Web Clips, and Uncheck the box saying ‘Show my web clips above the Inbox’. That’s it, now click on Mail.

Voila! The ad will vanish without the need of using any add-on or userscript. This trick works with both themes, Preview as well as Preview (Dense).

AdBlock add-on or extension is available for Firefox and Chrome to Disable/Remove advertisements in them. There was no such easy way to remove ads in Internet explorer which is the default browser on all Windows. Don’t worry, I’ve found an effective alternative which can easily block or remove all ads in IE.

Simple Adblock is a new and simple extension for Internet Explorer that blocks all kinds of advertising from websites including flash ads, banner ads, rich media, fly-ins, slide-ins and pop-ups. By eliminating the ads you also improve your surfing speed.

To use Simple adblock, just install it using .exe file. It’ll then ask you to chose your country to configure the ad filtering and use filters available for your geographic region. You can also add privacy filters to block the tracking scripts and protect your privacy.

Simple adblock can be easily accessed from IE status bar. You can right-click its icon to disable it temporarily or disable adblocking on a particular site. It works pretty well and doesn’t shows any white space when ads are blocked on web pages.

The popular AdBlock add-on for Firefox has now been added to the Chrome extensions gallery. Ad Blocker for Chrome blocks all advertisements on all web pages. It automatically updates your browser with additions to the filter.

AdBlock settings can be easily customized from Tools > Extensions > AdBlock Options. You can add filters for additional languages from its options menu.

Features:

- Block an ad that the filters missed – Press Ctrl-Shift-K (think "Kill!") Click the ad, Slide the slider until the ad is blocked correctly on the page. Click ‘Looks Good’ button.

- Don’t run AdBlock on specific domains – Press Ctrl-Shift-L (think "Live!") on a page to keep AdBlock away from running on that page’s domain, making it Whitelist.

To add the AdBlock button next to the address bar, click Install on the Browser Button for AdBlock page. To remove button, right click it and choose Disable.

Few days back, we shared a way to block unwanted ads & sponsored links in Gmail. Another useful add-on/extension is here which can block advertisements in Yahoo mail, Gmail and Hotmail on your Firefox and Chrome browser.

WebMail Ad Blocker is a handy add-on which allows users to block/hide/disable/remove all those unwanted ads which show up along with emails in sidebar, thereby expanding your message space. There are options also to hide various other items on pages.

Note – It adds a Webmail Ad Blocker donation link to your web client which can be easily removed. To hide it, follow the way below for your desired browser:

Firefox – Open Tools > Add-ons > Extensions tab. Open Webmail Ad Blocker Options and uncheck the box saying ‘Webmail Ad Blocker’ Link. Click OK

Chrome – Open extensions from Tools menu or type chrome://extensions/ in address bar. Open Webmail Ad Blocker Options and uncheck the box saying ‘Webmail Ad Blocker’ link.

Are you tired off seeing those annoying advertisements and sponsored links in your Gmail account? Today, I’m sharing an easy and working method which can remove all those ads and extra links from Gmail in Firefox & Google Chrome.

Hiding web clips shown above the Gmail Inbox –

Web Clips show you news headlines, blog posts, RSS and Atom feeds, and relevant sponsored links, right at the top of your inbox.

To disable them, open Settings in gmail and select Web Clips tab. Uncheck the box saying ‘Show my web clips above the Inbox’.

No more web clips will appear now!

Disable/Hide/Turn Off Ads or Sponsored Links appearing in Sidebar -

Many ads & sponsored links are shown in Gmail sidebar, when a mail is opened which can be sometimes irritating to users. There is a simple way to get rid of them.

Just follow the simple steps below for your desired browser:

For Mozilla Firefox -

1. Download and Install Greasemonkey add-on.

2. Install GMail Without Ads! GM userscript.

This will block ads only on Gmail but not on Google Apps mail. You can easily add your Apps mail (like http://mail.webtrickz.com/) to above GM script in order to hide ads on it.

For Google Chrome -

This is applicable for users running Google Chrome Beta version.

1. Open the ‘Gmail Hide Sponsored Links’ webpage on your Chrome browser.

2. Click the Install button to install this extension.

All ads will now be blocked both from Gmail and Google Apps mail.
