Finally, Google has released Google+ web app for Google Chrome that unfortunately fails to impress the users. That’s because the app is apparently nothing but a basic site bookmark linking to plus.google.com. It simply adds G+ shortcut icon to Chrome’s new tab page but lacks any other functionality.

The Google+ official extension might be delighting for G+ addicts and pointless at the same time for the rest of masses. For those who aren’t aware, Google has earlier made available a couple of handy Google+ extensions for Chrome – Google+ Notifications and Google +1 Button. We really expect Google to offer something more engaging that could intensify the experience of Google+ users.

Just in time, Wikipedia has also released their much awaited mobile application for Android. The app is free and available for download in the Android market!

Official Wikipedia App for Android is the free encyclopedia containing more than 20 million articles in 280 languages, and is the most comprehensive and widely used reference work humans have ever compiled. You’re presented with ‘Today’s featured article’ on the app’s home screen with an easy to read text layout, optimized for smartphones. It offers an impressive and useful ‘Save page’ feature, thus to let users save desired articles to read later or when offline.

Other nifty options include: the ability to Share pages, read an article in a different language, Full screen search, check history of recently viewed pages and there is a ‘Nearby’ option that searches for nearby locations on a Google Map. Moreover, there’s a Settings option to set the preferred text font size and default language for Wikipedia app from a list of various languages offered.

~ This is the initial version of app that has been installed by a very fair amount of Android users. We hope for some future updates that would make it more amazing.

Starting today, Google has begin rolling out the awesome Android 4.0, ICS update to GSM/UMTS Nexus S devices. However, the official ICS update may take a while to hit your Nexus S. Therefore, here is a simple tutorial for all those who can’t wait for the OTA update and are really desperate to taste ICS.

Note: This update is meant only for the GSM/UMTS Nexus S phones. Also, only upgrade if your Nexus S is running the official Gingerbread build and NOT any Custom ROM.

Steps to Manually Update Nexus S to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich -

1. Download Android 4.0 ICS update file. (Official)

2. Rename the downloaded file to update.zip.

3. Copy the file to the Internal storage (root directory) on your Nexus S.

4. Turn off the device. Then hold down the Volume Up and Power button to boot into the Nexus S bootloader.

5. Select Recovery (Use volume buttons to navigate and power key to select.)

6. As you see the warning triangle and arrow, hold the power key and tap volume up button. A menu will appear.

7. From menu, select “apply update from /sdcard“, and select update.zip file.

8. Wait till device installs the update. Upon completion, choose “reboot system now“.

Voila! After reboot, Android 4.0 should welcome you. :)

Update: As pointed out by Lars in comments, the ad-free site of TPB comes with a catch. i.e. only registered users can use the tracker and the subscription fee is $4.99 per month. That’s disappointing. :(
