Are you tired of all those pesky telemarketing SMS messages promoting services related to banking, insurance, finance, health, real estate, ongoing offers, etc.? This also includes various fraudulent SMS which itself are Spam and can eventually betray the users in some kind of unfair practices. To overcome this problem, you can simply Register in NDNC Registry to stop promotional calls and messages from Telecom Operators. But that would entirely block Unsolicited Commercial Communication that might Not be preferred by everyone. So, it’s better to report about those Fake/Spam SMS only!

SMSpam is a free and must have app for Android that makes this possible. The app does the complicated task in a certainly easy way, by allowing users to Report SMS as Spam in a few taps. It simply extracts the information from the spam sms and reports it to 1909 (toll free) as per TRAI guidelines. It has a cool and easy to use interface, you just need to run SMSpam, select a specific SMS message and report it as Spam. Upon reporting, you’ll receive a SMS stating that your DND-related SMS is received and will be processed within 24 hours. They will send a service request number for it accordingly. The app also shows a Score which lets you determine number of reports made by you.

This is indeed a great and useful app. We hope it also had the feature to report calls.

Note: Works only in India.

Nandroid Browser is an amazing and a must have app for Android users interested in rooting and flashing custom ROMs. If you’re involved in such technical practice then you must be aware about nandroid backups as well. Nandroid Backup involves making a complete backup of your entire Android phone which includes your current ROM, apps, settings, and other data stored on internal storage. (This doesn’t includes any data located on your SD card). To take a nandroid backup, it’s firstly necessary to root the device and install custom recovery like ClockworkMod Recovery. Afterwards, simply take a backup of your phone and restore it back from within the recovery mode.

Nandroid Browser is a free app for Android that serves a simple but useful purpose. It allows you to easily browse your nandroid backups and extract individual files right on your phone, which rather would require an uneasy task. With Nandroid browser, one can simply explore the nandroid backup (if store on sd card), browse through the several .img files and extract single APK files from it. On tapping the individual files, it lets you save them anywhere, open them or send single apps and files from your nandroid backups to your dropbox account, email, etc.

Currently supports nandroid backups stored as yaffs2 images (.img) as wells as ext4 images (.ext4.tar).

Should work with ClockWorkMod (CWM) backups and many others that use standard nandroid.

What most Samsung Galaxy Nexus users are looking for is now available, i.e. the official user guide for Galaxy Nexus, an amazing new smartphone running the latest version of Android ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’. The Galaxy Nexus box literally includes a small quick start guide that’s quite not sufficient to get started with a feature packed phone unless you are an Android lover or a typical geek.

Fortunately, Google has now released the Galaxy Nexus User’s Guide as a PDF, thus making it easier and quicker for users to get started with the new Android 4.0 ICS. However, the Galaxy Nexus help page indicates Coming Soon for the Owner’s guide which apparently is a different guide that emphasises on hardware functions of the device.

Galaxy Nexus User Manual is a detailed 107 page PDF with various topics, describing how to use your Android phone running Ice Cream Sandwich. The guide covers most of the basic tips and instructions to help you easily setup your phone, understand all the functions, settings and other new features in ICS. Included are tips to optimize the performance, manage accounts, connect to network and devices, secure phone, etc.

~ You can also check the Galaxy Nexus (Android 4.0) online help guide here.

Over the last few days, you must have came across all the fuss about Carrier IQ, a certain piece of software claimed to be factory installed on various smartphones, to access all the private and sensitive user data that is transferred through the phone to carrier without users consent and knowledge. This is pretty concerning for most users as this analytic tool invades their privacy by logging the keystrokes, tracking location, recording calls, and is also able to intercept your entire text messages.

Lookout Labs has just released ‘Carrier IQ Detector’, a simple app for Android phones that allows users to easily check and determine if their handset contains Carrier IQ software or not. However, the app does not offers the ability to remove Carrier IQ software from your device because it’s deeply integrated with device firmware, and requires special device permissions to remove it that isn’t so easier for basic users. Its job is just to help non-technical users quickly check the presence of Carrier IQ on their handset. The app is available for free and requires NO ROOT.

How to check if Carrier IQ rootkit is installed on your Android phone – Install Carrier IQ Detector and launch it. Then just see the listed results. If Carrier IQ is detected and you wish to remove it, then try looking for guides available on several forums such as XDA-Developer, etc. It is advisable to NOT proceed unless you find this really intruding.

Why You Should Hold onto Your iPhone 4 and Wait for the iPhone 5 -

The iPhone 4S recently hit the smartphone market, but it was not quite as popular as people thought it would become. Many customers are asking “where is the iPhone 5?” as they continue to hold onto their iPhone 4. Whether you feel you deserve a new iPhone or actually need it, you may still want to hold out until you can get your hands on the iPhone 5 instead of upgrading to the 4s. Many were disappointed by the release of a 4s phone instead of the 5. Unfortunately, that might just mean Apple will need to create and release the phone into the general population a little sooner than they had anticipated.

Why not the iPhone 4S?

This new version of the iPhone only has a few new features compared to the iPhone 4. Many people feel that they were only upgraded by a few megapixels; although some mega-geeks would argue that a new phone is a new phone. Any iPhone is hard to toss back into the sea, but many iPhone users have said they wish they spent their money on something bigger and better, like the iPhone 5 is supposed to be.

Why wait for the iPhone 5?

Many phone critics are telling users to just wait. That’s because they are expecting Apple to release something bigger and better than the iPhone 4s. The new release was simply a small upgrade from the last iPhone and users want more of a change. Some of those changes are anticipated to be huge. These are just a few reasons to wait:

Bigger technology upgrade with the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 is supposed to have some great capabilities, including video projection and more.

You will want to upgrade your iPhone again when the iPhone 5 comes out. Why waste your money on a phone with minimal changes when you could save your cash and make one upgrade?

There is not much difference between the iPhone 4 & iPhone 4s. Unless you’re a true tech-junkie, there is really no reason to upgrade.

There is nothing tangible that Apple is releasing that gives anyone a sneak peek behind the production of the iPhone 5. One thing you should note is that Apple has always been secretive about their new releases and we won’t have very many details until the official announcements are made. We know the phone is coming, and we know it will be better than the current version – but there isn’t much more speculation we can make.

What should you do?

No one can tell you which phone to hold on to. Upgrading now may mean you’ll have to extend your contract with your current cell phone provider, and then extend it again when the new phone comes out. Unless you’re close to the end of your term already, this likely won’t make a huge difference to you. Many have said that upgrading from the 4 to the 4s is like simply reaching out and touching the 5. At the end of the day, you may simply be better off waiting patiently for the 5 to come out.

If Samsung Galaxy S2 gets the Android 4.0 update then I don’t think current SGS2 users would find the need to upgrade to Google Nexus. That’s my view, share yours below.

Siri is a voice assistant service by Apple that comes integrated along with the new iPhone 4S. Siri is a smart and intelligent service that helps you get things done, all you have to do is ask Siri to do things just by talking the way you talk and Siri replies back. You can ask Siri to make a call, find a business and get directions, schedule reminders and meetings, search the web, dictate text, and more.

Siri has became widely popular among users of iPhone 4S and those who’ve figured out a way to make it work on iPhone 4. Now if you’re an Android phone user who wants Siri like voice assistant, then you’d be pleased to know that there is a pretty nice and efficient alternative to Siri, designed specially for Android.

Speaktoit Assistant is a free Android personal assistant app with capabilities similar to that offered by Siri. I personally tried the app and was quite amazed to see that it was understanding me well and was replying back in a Siri like voice with relevant results. The best thing is that developers are working hard and updating the Assistant app frequently to make it a lot better. It’s really amazing, responds fast and recognizes majority of the commands. The app has been downloaded by more than 1 million Android users.

Speaktoit has the ability to read natural language and converse in human speaking style. The app understands conversational context and isn’t limited to a user’s input of a specific string of keywords. In short, you talk to it like a human, not a robot.

Speaktoit’s assistants can: send emails, send texts, look up information, post to Twitter, check you in places, update your Facebook, find news, look up traffic, look up weather, call people, take notes, add things to your calendar, translate foreign languages, help you find nearby places like bars (but not without reminding you to enjoy responsibly…), and tons more.

Speaktoit for Android is different from Siri as it contains some additional impressive features. Unlike Siri, Speaktoit lets you choose (or build) a cartoon avatar to converse with which is much more personal and fun. You can even share a conversation on social networks, turn speech on/off, or change the app background from the Settings menu.

Speaktoit is currently available for Android but is coming soon for iOS and Blackberry. The users are apparently liking it, the app is getting over 15k downloads a day.
