Spam blogs are usually a scrapper site which automatically pulls the entire post via sites RSS feed and publishes it on their site without the consent of original author. This can be generally referred as stealing of content.

Unfortunately, the recent Google Search algorithm (PANDA update) seems to give more importance to these splogs rather than the original site. I’ve seen many instances where our site was being outranked by the content scrappers in Google search, this makes me sad and is pretty bothersome. A small example of this can be seen below:

As you can see in above screenshot, the scrapper site is ranking at 1st position whereas the original site is at 3rd position. This definitely drops down our organic traffic and the sploggers who just steal our work enjoy the benefit of it.

To combat against this, Google seems to have finally started working to improve their search algorithm and they need data points for testing. Matt Cutts (head of the Google webspam team) just tweeted a link, using which site owners can report about blog scrapers to Google. This is a specialised webpage to Report scraper pages, it says:

Google is testing algorithmic changes for scraper sites (especially blog scrapers). We are asking for examples, and may use data you submit to test and improve our algorithms.

From now onwards, if you ever find any spam site or blog who is lifting your articles and is ranking above your site in Google, then do report about them and help Google in improving their algorithm. For me, Panda is a sort of nightmare that has turned into reality, resulting in 50% drop in both traffic and revenue since last few months. :(

To Report a Scraper site, just visit here. Input the search query, then URL of original site page and the scrapper site page. You can share some details too. Click Submit!

Meanwhile, Twitter also has all sorts of stuff from various categories, plus it acts as an influential and smart search engine to search queries in real-time. Similarly, Google Plus has a whole lot of stuff publicly available that one can use to search any information posted on Google+.

But that’s currently not possible because Google Plus web interface only has a search option to Find people and Not its content. However, you can easily Set Google+ as a search engine in Chrome browser or make it your default search engine. See how:

1. Click on the Wrench icon in Google Chrome and select Options.

2. Under Basics, move to Search and click on Mange Search Engines

3. Scroll down to Other Search Engines and fill in the below mentioned entries:

- Input Google+ in ‘Add a new search engine’ box.

- Input posts in ‘Keyword’ box.

- Input the below line in ‘URL with %s in place of query’ box.

{google:baseURL}search?q=site:plus.google.com inurl:posts/* %s

That’s it. Set it as your default search engine if you want!

Now, just type posts in Chrome’s address bar and select the option in drop-down that says Search Google+ for <enter query> – (Keyword: posts)

Don’t worry you don’t have to remember that – it appears automatically. Once you have selected that Search Google+: will show up. Then just type in your keywords or search query to search among all the posts and profiles on Google+.

Surprisingly, last night I noticed the +1 button live for one of my search query which confirms that Google is experimenting it and is just a step away to roll out +1’s, starting in English on Google.com.

According to Google:

It’s called +1 — the digital shorthand for “this is pretty cool.” To recommend something, all you have to do is click +1 on a webpage or ad you find useful. These +1’s will then start appearing in Google’s search results.

Click +1 to publicly give something your stamp of approval. Your +1′s can help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search.

The +1 button appears next to each search result.

After pressing +1 button, you have the option to Undo the action immediately.

To start +1’ing things, you’ll need to create a Google profile (Google+) or if you already have one, upgrade it to Google+. To see +1’s in your Google search results you must be logged into your Google Account. (Currently not available)

Check +1s done by you: If you’re using Google+ already, then you’ll find a +1’s Tab in your profile where all of your +1’s are listed in one place. You can view them and delete those you no longer want to recommend. Likewise, Undo option appears here too.

It appears that +1 will officially rollout just after Google opens the Google+ doors for everyone. Google aims to provide better and more relevant results by combining and including all the social content in its search. Let’s see how it goes. :)

P.S. I didn’t participated in any experiment, was just lucky to get a sneak peek of it.

Instant can currently be accessed only from Google.com but if you’re running a test build of Chrome browser, then you can get the Instant search results right in the Chrome’s omnibox (address or search bar).

Currently, Instant can be activated via Labs in the beta/dev/canary releases of Chrome on Windows OS. To enable it, type about:labs in the address bar, enable the ‘Instant’ option and restart Chrome. Now search to see the amazing Instant search results.

1. You can turn off Google Instant by clicking the Instant is on link next to the search box on any search results page, and selecting the Off option.

2. To permanently disable Google instant, visit your Preferences page. Scroll down to Google Instant and select the “Do not use Google Instant” radio button. Then, click the ‘Save Preferences’ button.
