Android offers an easy way to toggle various system settings directly from the notifications bar at top or using the stock ‘Power Control’ widget. However, one big limitation is that only a couple of options are integrated for quick access which cant be altered in anyway unless you’re using a custom ROM on your device. We’ve discovered a great app which overcomes this hassle and doesn’t involves rooting.

Powerful Control is a free and nifty app/widget that serves a perfect replacement for the default power control widget on Android. It offers a set of multi-in-one widgets that makes it easier to toggle system settings. You can place desired individual widgets on your home screen for Wi-Fi, mobile data, Bluetooth, screen rotation, screen brightness, silent mode, vibrate mode, airplane mode, GPS, and sync.

The app also includes a enhanced version of power control widget, with an elegant interface and additional options that aren’t found in the default Android widget. Additional system options that you can quickly toggle on/off with powerful control widget include: Mobile data, screen rotation, silent mode, vibrate mode, and Airplane mode.

You can change the widget panel options and their placement easily via drag and drop. The powerful control widget possibly shows upto 7 system options which is more than enough. If you wish to add rest of them then simply add their specific widgets. This tool enables you to toggle mobile data with one click, without messing up your APNs.

ICS Ready – Powerful Control works perfectly with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It offers the ability to add the system settings in the notification bar on devices like Galaxy Nexus. You can simultaneously use all of the 3 widgets provided you’ve ICS loaded on your phone. To get the traditional notification bar on ICS devices, open powerful control app, click on tools icon and enable notification widgets option. You can also customize the notification widgets as desired. It should be noted that a small icon shows up at the top bar when this feature is enabled.

One downside is that the app shows Leadbolt adware which is said to appear once in a week as stated. But that’s not an issue considering it’s a free and good application.

Try it now! Download Powerful Control [Google Play]

~ This app is quite new, so don’t forget to spread the word if you like it.

Just like any other browser, Mozilla Firefox stores all the significant stuff on your computer that is required for its functioning. If you’re a power Firefox user with lots of data and information stored over time, then it would become a nightmare for you to manually input all the browsing information, add-ons, passwords and other data, in case you decide to format your Windows, make some critical changes to Firefox settings, or just wish to move Firefox to a new computer.

Similar to MozBackup, Firefox Backup Tool is a simple and efficient tool for Windows that lets you completely backup your Firefox browser. It can easily backup all the important Firefox configuration, including user preferences, bookmarks, extensions, browsing history, form history, saved passwords, cookies, etc. as a single backup file on your system. You can also add a password to the backup file to secure it. The Firefox backup created can be restored anytime using the same tool and you need to input the correct password if added while taking a backup.

It’s advisable NOT to restore a 32-bit backup file to a 64-bit version of Firefox, as some of the 32-bit add-ons might not be compatible with a 64-bit build. Firefox Backup Tool is a freeware, currently supports Windows (both x86 and x64 versions).

Few months back, Gmail introduced several new inbox styles with the purpose to let users manage their email in the best preferred way. The new inbox style tab has now been turned on for almost everyone, and is also available on the new Gmail look. This new style adds 5 different Inbox tabs at the top of your inbox. Indicated as – “Try on a new inbox: Classic, Important first, Unread first, Starred first, Priority Inbox”.

If you’ve already saw this new inbox style then you must have noticed that the ‘Inbox-style tabs toolbar’ disappears from your Gmail interface after a while. Well that’s not a magic but smarty Gmail that removes those tabs bar, after watching you settled on a particular favorite style for about a week. However, one can easily change the inbox style from the drop-down menu next to the Inbox label or from Settings (Inbox).

Fortunately, there is a way to easily restore the Inbox tabs toolbar in Gmail if it has vanished automatically or you closed it using the cross(x) button. To get it back, just hover your cursor over the Inbox tab in left sidebar and click on the drop down menu. Then point at Inbox Type and click the ‘Try the tabs again’ option. That’s it.

Note: Apparently, Gmail has one stupid limitation which prevents you from getting the inbox-style tab bar again. What happens is, if you close the tabs bar twice then Gmail assumes that you don’t need it. Hence, on closing the inbox tabs bar for second time, the Try the tabs again option wont appear anymore and you cant get it.

Recently, Twitter made some changes to its email notifications, which by default now sends email to notify you when someone sends you a reply or mentions you in a tweet. Users also receive an email if someone retweets or favorites one of their Tweets. This is a good measure to keep users updated as most don’t know who retweeted their tweets. However, if you’re a power twitter user who gets several replies/mentions in a day then you many find the incoming emails pretty annoying and they’ll clutter up your inbox.

You can easily overcome this by changing your email preferences in the notifications section of twitter settings page. To Turnoff or Block emails for replies and @mentions from twitter, just go to Settings > Notifications. Uncheck the option “I’m sent a reply or mentioned” and any other you desire to disable. Click the Save button, that’s it!

According to twitter:

You will not necessarily receive an email for every retweet, reply, or favorite; for now we will only email you when we think it is most relevant. Note that every email contains a link to unsubscribe from that particular type of notification.

Apple iPad 2 features an amazing and smart accessory known as “Smart Cover” that are perfectly designed to protect your iPad screen in an elegant and compact way. The smart cover uses a bunch of magnets to hold itself instantly and perfectly with iPad 2.

The Smart Cover not just protects your iPad, but also wakes it up as you open the cover and automatically makes it sleep as you close the cover back. Not to forget, smart covers folds into a perfect stand making it real easy to type quickly on your desk.

By default, the Smart Cover Automatically locks and unlocks your iPad when you close and open the iPad cover. However, there’s is an option to easily turn off this feature so as not to let the iPad go to sleep and wake up as the cover is closed and opened.

To Enable/Disable this feature, go to Settings > General > iPad Cover Lock/Unlock and set the option to either On or Off as required.

iPad Cover Lock/Unlock missing? Most of you might have noticed that iPad 2 doesn’t shows the iPad Cover Lock/Unlock option in settings. That’s NOT an issue, this option automatically shows up once you attach the smart cover for first time on your iPad.

Disable Audio/Sound in Gmail Chat – Sometimes you may not want to disclose that you’re chatting online or Assume you’re listening some really good music and at the same time chatting with your friends on Google Gmail. You might get pretty irritated after hearing those ping sounds frequently which spoils all the music flavour.

However, there is a very simple way to get rid of this annoyance. Gmail offers an inbuilt feature which allows users to disable audio while chatting. Doing this will stop all the sound when you receive any chat messages. You can revert back anytime later.

Turning off the Gmail Chat audio – Go to Gmail, open ‘Options’ by clicking on the small tools icon located at the top right corner. Click on Mail Settings > open the Chat tab, select the ‘Sounds off’ radio button for Sounds. Now click on Save Changes.

Follow the tutorial below to do this task easily:

1. Open Windows and navigate to C:\Users\Mayur\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data (Replace Mayur with you username). Make sure ‘Show hidden files & folders’ option is enabled in Folder options.

2. Copy the ‘Default’ folder and save it somewhere on Pen drive. If you’ve dual booted Windows & Ubuntu, then there is no need to save this folder as you can browse it from within Ubuntu.

3. Log in to Ubuntu.

4. Download and Install Google Chrome first, if you haven’t.

5. Navigate to Places > Home Folder (user) > .config > google-chrome

6. Replace the ‘Default’ folder there with the Windows one, that you found in Step 2. (You can also first delete this folder (in Ubuntu) and then paste the one from Windows).

Open Chrome now and you’ll see all your old browser data and settings intact. Enjoy

Note: Chrome Extensions may not work, you’ll need to uninstall them and then reinstall.Related Posts:
