While navigating through Facebook, I just noticed a new option “Unfollow Post” that lets you Stop receiving notifications for a particular post when someone makes a comment on it. Certainly, this is a nifty addition and would be used by a lot of people who participate in a certain post and then receive a bloat of notifications related to it. Now you can just unfollow any post made by you or someone else and get rid from the frequent notification pop-ups.

Note: The ‘Unfollow Post’ option only appears on Facebook when you post a comment on a post. Also, it seems that the option can be seen only if the person at whose post you’ve commented, is friends with you or you’ve subscribed to his/her updates.

You can easily ‘unfollow post’ to stop getting notified when someone comments or select ‘Follow Post’ option to get notified again.

Facebook has made it easier to share stuff with who you want, bigger photos with faster loading, Improved Friend Lists, Subscribe option. Just yesterday, Facebook introduced News Feed that shows up Top stories and Recent stories from your stream. There’ve also integrated a Ticker in right sidebar at the top that shows updates and activity from your friends in real-time.

Apparently, most Facebook users aren’t really impressed with the New Facebook layout saying that it’s confusing and tough to handle the bloat of updates being bombarded now. The new Real-time Ticker in sidebar pushes feeds instantaneously just like Twitter. If you’re finding the Ticker annoying and want to get a bit of OLD Facebook layout back, then you can easily get rid of that ticker in Google Chrome and Firefox browser.

Hide Facebook SideBar Ticker (For Chrome)

This is a handy extension for Chrome that disables the ticker and prevents if from appearing in sidebar on Facebook. It even hides the sponsored ads shown in sidebar.

Remove Facebook Sidebar Ticker (For Firefox)

This is a userscript for Firefox that removes the new annoying ticker from the sidebar. It requires Greasemonkey add-on to be installed.

Another new service has just been introduced called “plus.ly”.

The conversation barely halts and the people don’t seem to spam much on it, rather care to share useful and interesting stuff with their Circles, Friends and Public.

Google+ indeed comes with a lot of exciting features, most of which are not available yet on other popular social sites. Google+ is undergoing through slight testing and this seems to be the reason why Google hasn’t opened its doors for everyone. One great feature still missing from Google+ is the option to set custom username or set a vanity URL for your profile on Google+. This is much needed because the current profile link includes a long sequence of numbers which isn’t easy to remember for sharing offline, looks appalling on paper, and makes it difficult to identify a profile by its link.

Of course, you can use a URL shortening service to shorten your Google+ profile link but that doesn’t blends with the Google+ name. Fortunately, a new service called “Google Plus Nick” is just out which allows you to easily Make Short URL for Google+ Profile with a cool and smaller domain. One can set a custom username which can be at least 3 to at most 25 characters, and should not contain numbers or special characters.

So, just make a short link for your G+ profile and share it easily online or offline.
