Why You Should Hold onto Your iPhone 4 and Wait for the iPhone 5 -

The iPhone 4S recently hit the smartphone market, but it was not quite as popular as people thought it would become. Many customers are asking “where is the iPhone 5?” as they continue to hold onto their iPhone 4. Whether you feel you deserve a new iPhone or actually need it, you may still want to hold out until you can get your hands on the iPhone 5 instead of upgrading to the 4s. Many were disappointed by the release of a 4s phone instead of the 5. Unfortunately, that might just mean Apple will need to create and release the phone into the general population a little sooner than they had anticipated.

Why not the iPhone 4S?

This new version of the iPhone only has a few new features compared to the iPhone 4. Many people feel that they were only upgraded by a few megapixels; although some mega-geeks would argue that a new phone is a new phone. Any iPhone is hard to toss back into the sea, but many iPhone users have said they wish they spent their money on something bigger and better, like the iPhone 5 is supposed to be.

Why wait for the iPhone 5?

Many phone critics are telling users to just wait. That’s because they are expecting Apple to release something bigger and better than the iPhone 4s. The new release was simply a small upgrade from the last iPhone and users want more of a change. Some of those changes are anticipated to be huge. These are just a few reasons to wait:

Bigger technology upgrade with the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 is supposed to have some great capabilities, including video projection and more.

You will want to upgrade your iPhone again when the iPhone 5 comes out. Why waste your money on a phone with minimal changes when you could save your cash and make one upgrade?

There is not much difference between the iPhone 4 & iPhone 4s. Unless you’re a true tech-junkie, there is really no reason to upgrade.

There is nothing tangible that Apple is releasing that gives anyone a sneak peek behind the production of the iPhone 5. One thing you should note is that Apple has always been secretive about their new releases and we won’t have very many details until the official announcements are made. We know the phone is coming, and we know it will be better than the current version – but there isn’t much more speculation we can make.

What should you do?

No one can tell you which phone to hold on to. Upgrading now may mean you’ll have to extend your contract with your current cell phone provider, and then extend it again when the new phone comes out. Unless you’re close to the end of your term already, this likely won’t make a huge difference to you. Many have said that upgrading from the 4 to the 4s is like simply reaching out and touching the 5. At the end of the day, you may simply be better off waiting patiently for the 5 to come out.

7. Press the ‘Launch software update’ button. The flashing will start and you will see an ‘Emergency mode’ screen on your phone. Wait for 5-10 minutes until the process gets finished. Don’t touch your phone or disturb the KDZ updater at this moment.

franco.Kernel is a very optimized kernel for Android 2.2 and 2.3 custom (non-official) ROMs. Its philosophy is to push the phone’s performance as hard as it can, while maintaining extra battery power. Its popularity speaks for itself. [Facebook fan page]

Note: This kernel is only for Froyo, Mik’s CM7 v6.5.7 (stable) and void.forever ROM.

Before starting you need to Choose between CFS and BFS -

BFS and CFS are different types of task schedulers used by the Linux kernel. CFS (Completely Fair Scheduler) is more established and is used in many main-line linux kernels. While, BFS is quite a bit newer (it’s been developed only in the past few years), it is said to be optimized for simpler Linux builds. The results indicate that BFS is better for interactive tasks that block on I/O or user input and that CFS is better for batch processing that is CPU bound.

Our “Guide to Install Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread Custom ROM on LG Optimus One P500” uses void. #forever ROM that includes 2.6.32.39-franco.Kernel.v16.1. Now, if you want to upgrade franco.Kernel to the latest version (v19.3) 2.6.32.45 which is improved and has additional features over the older 16.1 version, then you can simply do it.

Don’t worry, this is just a Kernel not a ROM that wont wipe your device data or settings. However, it is recommended to take a backup before proceeding so as to stay safe in case something goes wrong.

Follow the Steps below carefully to Flash or Update franco. kernel on LG P500 -

1. Visit XDA-Developers forum, download the franco.Kernel (CFS or BFS) <del>and the ZRAM module file</del>. Move <del>both</del> the file to your SD card.

2. Reboot into recovery – Hold the power button and select Reboot, then choose “Recovery”. Alternatively, you can use the phone keys to get into recovery:

To boot into custom recovery when phone is powered off – Hold down the keys combo: volume down + Home + Power button simultaneously and release all the buttons as the ClockworkMod Recovery shows up.

3. In Recovery mode, select “wipe cache partition”. Then go to advanced and “wipe battery stats”.

4. Then select “install zip from sdcard” > “choose zip from sdcard” and select the CFS or BFS file. After franco.Kernel is flashed choose ‘reboot system now’.

<del>5. Again boot into recovery and similarly flash the ZRAM module (zram.zip) file. Reboot.</del>

That’s it! Now you can check the kernel version in ‘About Phone’ to confirm.

See our LG Optimus One P500 – 2.3.4 Benchmark. Test run on Quadrant, using void. #forever ROM (version r1.6.15) and Franco Kernel v19.2. CPU set to 729 MHz.

FYI, I installed the CFS franco kernel.Related Posts:

OS X Lion (v10.7) has been finally released, the upgrade is now available for download at Mac App Store for $29.99. The Lion upgrade has a pretty hefty size of 3.49 GB which can be downloaded only through Mac App Store. Although, you have the option to download the latest upgrade from a Apple retail store but this makes it cumbersome if you want to install Lion on your other Macs or systems with no broadband access, thus to prevent downloading the same upgrade for other Macs individually.

There is an easy way to overcome this problem – just Create a Bootable DVD or a USB Flash drive to Install Mac OS X Lion on multiple Macs without any hassle. OS X Daily has recently shared a perfect step-by-step guide which allows you to simply perform this task, just follow the steps carefully as suggested in their post. Check the links below:

Note: After upgrading, Lion deletes the installer file automatically from the Applications. So, perform this task before running the Lion upgrade or make a copy of the installer to some other place on your Mac.

Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread is the latest version of Android currently available for smartphones powered by Android. LG Optimus One P500 comes pre-installed with Android 2.2 and LG officially announced sometime back that Gingerbread update for Optimus One will be available by May end in India but until now there are no signs of its launch. Thus, most users who got the device assuming it would get Android 2.3 aren’t much happy.

So, we’re here to share a detailed tutorial which describes as “How to manually update LG P500 to a custom Gingerbread ROM (void. #forever)”. This ROM developed by XDA member ‘Noejn’ is based on CyanogenMod 7 (CM7) who earlier released Megatron, Prime and Devoid Rom based on 2.2 which are the most stable and best ROMs on 2.2. The void. #forever ROM (latest ver. r1.6.15) released a week ago is amazing and stable too.

Why Use Custom ROM? – Certainly, it’s not easy for everyone to install a custom ROM because it’s a complex task and might break your device if not done properly. But using a custom ROM has several pros like you’re free to customize it, plus they don’t have any pre-loaded apps. Custom ROMs tend to increase the speed at-least by twice (check the benchmarks at XDA to compare with other devices after modding). Plus they’ve MANY other minor tweaks, which makes your smartphone really smart.

Disclaimer: Please try this guide at your own risk. We will not be responsible in case you brick the device or its warranty gets void.

Note: Don’t install this custom ROM if you’re running Official Gingerbread V20b ROM or you will see No Network. That’s because GB Stock ROM has a new baseband that is not supported by void ROM. To install void ROM, you first need to restore the Stock 2.2 ROM. To restore, download the official Android 2.2.2 V10e ROM. Then follow the steps given in this guide to downgrade the firmware using KDZ updater.

Prerequisite: Optimus one (Charged), USB cable, a computer and adequate time. Download the below files to your desktop.

Download File 1: void-forever_0_2.zip (62.9MB)

Download File 2: void-forever-addon.zip (4.76MB)

Download File 3: voidAddonsPack.zip (16.2MB)

Download File 4: stock.zip (2.09MB)

Before proceeding, make sure to BACKUP entire phone data like contacts, messages, photos, etc. Also, copy the full contents of your SDcard to a folder on your PC because it will also be formatted. You may want to note the names of installed Apps as they will also be lost. This is similar to formatting Windows.

Procedure – Step by Step Instructions to install Custom Gingerbread ROM on LG Optimus One P500

Modding involves 3 main process:

1. Rooting

2. Setting Custom recovery

3. Flashing

>> Make sure that you follow each and every step very carefully to achieve success.

Step 1: ROOT Optimus One

Note: Make sure to Kill all the running apps and processes using Taskiller before hitting the Root button. Furthermore, connect the phone to computer via USB cable and enable USB debugging mode (Settings > Applications > Development) before rooting. Upon successful rooting, you will notice a new app called “Superuser” in the menu.

z4root offers an easy and quick way to root most of the devices. Download and install it, then select the “Permanent Root” button. The screen will go white, wait until the phone gets rebooted. Offers unroot option.

If you updated your Optimus to latest firmware V10E as I did, then you have to use the other alternative “GingerBreak”. [Download Here, v1.2]

>> Check Step 2 at Page 2

We just tested the final build of KIS 2012 and the complete package installation took around a minute. Also, the installer size that was 136 MB in Beta has been reduced to just 66.8 MB in the final version. Both Kaspersky Antivirus 2012 and Internet Security 2012 comes with a completely redesigned interface which is certainly much better than the former v11.0 design. Kaspersky 2012 security products offers new and improved features like Advanced Cloud Protection, File Advisor, includes integrated Tools for troubleshooting Windows, erasing activities history and analyzing web browser configuration. Application Activity feature is similar to Task manager that list running processes, shows their status and amount of memory consumed by them.
