Asus has finally launched the Zenfone 5Z in India, its latest 2018 flagship smartphone. The company has been teasing the launch of Zenfone 5Z for the Indian market for a while across social media. The Zenfone 5z is the most premium model from the Zenfone 5 series that will be available exclusively on Flipkart. The 5Z was initially launched alongside the Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5 Lite earlier this year at MWC 2018. Let’s take a look at what the device packs.
Asus Zenfone 5Z: Specifications and Features
The Zenfone 5Z features an all-screen display and an iPhone X-like notch at the top of the display. Besides an aluminium body, the device packs 2.5D glass on the front and the back. The smartphone offers AI-powered features, a dual-camera system, and ZeniMoji which is Asus’ take at Apple’s Animoji. Upfront is a big 6.2-inch 19:9 Full HD+ Super IPS display with a resolution of 1080 x 2246 pixels. The 19:9 aspect ratio makes for a 90 percent screen-to-body ratio and the display supports the DCI-P3 colour gamut. The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with Artificial Intelligence Engine and Adreno 630 GPU. The phone runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box with the company’s new ZenUI 5.0. The Zenfone 5z is available in 3 memory configurations – 6GB RAM + 64GB storage, 6GB RAM + 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage. The storage is further expandable up to 2TB via a dedicated microSD card slot.
In terms of optics, the Zenfone 5Z packs a 12MP + 8MP dual-camera setup at the back. The primary 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor has an f/1.8 aperture, PDAF, 83-degree field of view, 4-axis OIS, and LED flash. The secondary 8MP rear sensor is coupled with a 120-degree wide-angle lens and an f/2.2 aperture. The main camera supports 4K video recording at 60fps, 1080p slow-motion video at 240fps, and 3-axis EIS. For selfies and video calling, an 8MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture and 84-degree FOV sits on the front.
Other features include a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, face recognition for Face Unlock, and real-time beautification. Similar to the OnePlus 6, the notch on Zenfone 5Z can be hidden. Connectivity options include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4 & 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, FM radio, NFC, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors onboard include Accelerator, E-Compass, Gyroscope, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, and RGB sensor. A 3300mAh battery with AI Charging tech keeps the device running. In the audio department, it offers a dual 5-magnet speaker, Hi-Res Audio support, DTS Headphone: X, and triple internal microphones with noise reduction.
The Zenfone 5Z comes in Midnight Blue and Meteor Silver colour options. Measuring 7.9mm in thickness, the phone weighs 155g.
Pricing and Availability – The 6GB + 64GB base variant of Asus Zenfone 5Z (ZS620KL) comes at a starting price of Rs. 29,999 in India. The mid-end model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage has been priced at Rs. 32,999. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line model boasting 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at Rs. 36,999. The device will be available for sale in India from 9 July exclusively at Flipkart. Asus has bundled a ZenEar Pro Hi-Res headset, a clear soft bumper case, and a Quick Charge 3.0 18W USB power adaptor inside the box.
