HTC U Ultra and U Play announced – Specifications & Features

Earlier today, HTC announced its 2017 flagship smartphone ‘the U Ultra‘, first phone from its new U series that is accompanied by another low spec’d phone ‘the U Play‘. HTC has also introduced a new Sense Companion assistant with both the devices, along with a secondary display on U Ultra. The U Ultra sports a bigger 5.7″ Quad HD display as compared to U Play which packs a 5.2″ Full HD display, however neither of the new phones have a 3.5mm headphone jack similar to iPhone 7 and Moto Z. The U Ultra possesses a premium all-glass exterior that looks highly glossy and HTC calls it ‘Liquid Surface’. Another highlight of the Ultra is that it’s covered in Sapphire glass but this only applies to the limited edition variant. Now let us guide you through the technical specifications of the duo:

HTC U Ultra comes in 4 colors: Sapphire Blue, Cosmetic Pink, Brilliant Black and Ice White. The 64GB variant will be available for pre-order at $749 from HTC.com starting today and will start shipping in March.

  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • 3GB RAM with 32GB storage & 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, expandable up to 2TB with microSD
  • 16MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, OIS, dual-tone LED flash, 1080p video @30fps
  • 16MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and UltraPixel mode
  • HTC USonic, Dual microphones with noise cancelation
  • Connectivity: 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4 & 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS with GLONASS, USB 2.0 Type-C, NFC
  • Fingerprint Sensor
  • Hybrid Dual SIM (nano SIM + nano SIM or microSD)
  • 2500mAh battery with fast charging
  • Weight: 145g

HTC U Play also comes in 4 colors: Sapphire Blue, Cosmetic Pink, Brilliant Black and Ice White. It will be available from March 2017. There is no word on its pricing yet.

Both the phones comes with HTC’s new USonic, a sonar-like technology that has tiny microphones built into both earbuds that “listen” for sonic pulses, and then adjusts the audio to match your ears’ unique architecture. We look forward to their launch in India. Stay tuned!
