WinRAR is certainly one of the best file compression and archiving software for Windows. RARLAB, the makers of WinRAR have now released a similar tool as an app for Android devices. Unlike WinRAR, RAR for Android is free and can be downloaded from Google Play. The app is only compatible with devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and up.
RAR for Android offers you the ability to create RAR and ZIP archives, plus unpack RAR, ZIP, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, 7z, ISO, ARJ archives; directly on your Android smartphone or tablet. It provides other useful functions that include: option to repair damaged ZIP and RAR files, perform benchmark, file encryption, create solid archives, recovery record, usual and recovery volumes, utilizing multiple CPU cores to compress data. In addition to standard ZIP files, unzip function also supports ZIP and ZIPX with BZIP2, LZMA and PPMd compression.
Other advanced options include: delete files after archiving, create and manage profiles, set file compression speed, test archived files, use BLAKE2 file checksum, and more.
The app has Holo Dark theme enabled by default and you can switch to Holo Light theme in settings. A Navigation panel opens up when you swipe from left edge of screen or touch RAR icon. The panel offers quick access to useful commands, favorites and archive history.
