How to enable ‘Save and Quit’ option in Firefox 4

If you’ve recently updated to Firefox 4, then you must have noticed a new design and some new features. But there’s one very handy feature ‘Save and Exit’ which is missing in Firefox 4, but was available in previous versions of Firefox browser. However, there is a quick and easy way to get back this option, which restores all the tabs opened in the browser on re-opening Firefox 4.

To Enable ‘Save and Quit’ feature in Firefox 4, just type about:config in the address bar and open it. Enter browser.showQuitWarning in the Filter tab. Double-click the entry named browser.showQuitWarning so that its value changes to ‘true’. That’s it!

Now you’ll be presented with ‘Quit Firefox’ dialog box on closing Firefox 4. 🙂

Thanks @rish404 for the tip.

I think this feature is now available in Firefox 4 without any extra procedure to enable it.

Brilliant! You wouldn’t know how to get the “refresh,” “stop” and “go” buttons back, would you?

    🙂

Thanks. FYI, all the 3 buttons “refresh,” “stop” and “go” are still present in Firefox 4 but at a different position. You can locate them at the end of address bar (close to left side of search box). 🙂

I went thru the steps, it is set to TRUE, but i do not get the SAVE AND QUIT option, only the “sure you want to close multiple tabs” warning.
    Hmmm

That’s strange. Are you using the final version of Firefox 4?

i also just saw a Mozilla support entry which shows four possible re-sets that need to be adjusted.

I think I may know the problem. Go into the Options and set “When Firefox starts:” to Show my home page or Show a blank page. Then it should work correctly.

Thank you! Thought I was losing it when it wasn’t prompting. Wonder why they disabled it.

I did that and it worked for a while. Now it’s back to the way it used to be and it still says “true”

Hi, it didn’t work for me either, so I went into Options as Belstrom advised, and I also noticed that among the “When Firefox Starts..” options, there is an option to load your previous tabs/web pages on opening Firefox. So I clicked on that and closed my browser. This time there was no Close Tabs warning at all..however, when I reopened Firefox, it automatically opened my previous tabs! So this should work for everyone 🙂
