iOS 16 introduced Lock Screen widgets, allowing users to personalize their lock screen with interactive elements. Since then, several popular apps, including Google, Snapchat, and Facebook, have launched their own Lock Screen widgets for iOS 16.
Spotify, the world’s most popular music streaming service, has also rolled out a Lock Screen widget for iPhone. Before this, the Spotify app was updated to support full-screen album art on the iPhone Lock Screen.

To get the Spotify widget on your Lock Screen, your iPhone must be running iOS 16 or later.
Currently, there’s only one Spotify Lock Screen widget for iPhone, and it simply opens the Spotify app. The widget is available in a square format, which pairs nicely with Apple’s Weather and Activity widgets.
Spotify’s Lock Screen widget lets users quickly access their music and playlists with a single tap, which is perfect for when you’re on the go or driving. It saves time by allowing you to jump straight into Spotify without unlocking your iPhone, searching for the app, and launching it manually.
When you tap the widget, it takes you directly to the last screen you had open in Spotify, eliminating the need to navigate through the app’s menus each time.

Steps to Add Spotify Widget to Lock Screen on iOS 16
- Update the Spotify app to the latest version.
- Open the Spotify app.
- Touch and hold (long-press) an empty area on the Lock Screen while your iPhone is unlocked.
- Tap the Customise button under the desired Lock Screen.
- On the Customise Wallpaper screen, tap and select Lock Screen.
- Tap the widgets row (below the clock) to add or remove widgets.
- Scroll through the Add Widgets section and select Spotify from the list. Tip: If you don’t see the Spotify widget in the list, try this fix.
- Tap to add the Spotify widget in circular size.
- Tap Done after placing the widget, then return to the Lock Screen.

Now simply tap the Spotify widget to jump in and listen to music directly from your Lock Screen.
Alternate Method
While your iPhone is unlocked, go to Settings > Wallpaper. Tap Customise under the Lock Screen you want to edit, then follow the steps above starting from Step #6.

Spotify also offers Home Screen widgets for iPhone in two sizes:
- 2×2 widget – Shows your most recently played content.
