Do you often find random screenshots of your car’s infotainment system in your Photos app after using Apple CarPlay? If so, you’re not alone.
When your iPhone is connected to Apple CarPlay, it automatically takes two screenshots when you capture a screenshot — one of your iPhone screen and one of the CarPlay interface. These images are saved directly to the Photos app, cluttering your gallery with screen captures you may not need.
Why Does My iPhone Take Two Screenshots?
When you manually take a screenshot while using CarPlay, your iPhone captures both your phone’s screen and the CarPlay interface. This results in two screenshots being saved to the Photos app.
iOS 26 introduced a dedicated CarPlay Screenshots toggle that lets you disable this behavior. The same setting is available in iOS 27.
The setting isn’t located under CarPlay. Instead, you’ll find it under the Screen Capture settings.
How to Stop CarPlay from Taking Screenshots on iPhone
Follow these steps to turn off CarPlay screenshots on an iPhone running iOS 26 or iOS 27:
- Make sure your iPhone is running iOS 26 or iOS 27.
- Open Settings.
- Go to General > Screen Capture.
- Turn off CarPlay Screenshots.
Once disabled, your iPhone will no longer save CarPlay screenshots to your Photos library.
