Microsoft recently introduced Copilot Mode in the Edge browser, a new AI-powered browsing experience designed to help users research, read, create, and summarise content more efficiently.
Microsoft Copilot is deeply integrated into Edge, so you cannot completely remove Copilot from Edge. However, you can disable Copilot Mode and turn off most Copilot AI features if you don’t intend to use them.
This guide explains multiple ways to disable or turn off Copilot in Edge on Windows 11, Windows 10, and macOS.
What is Copilot Mode in Microsoft Edge?
Copilot Mode in Microsoft Edge is an experimental feature that brings AI directly into the browser, offering smarter tools for browsing and productivity. It includes AI-powered search, page summaries, writing help, translation, image analysis through Copilot Vision, and a more interactive new tab page.
On some versions of Edge, Copilot Mode may be turned on by default, but you can disable it whenever you want.
How to Turn Off Copilot Mode in Microsoft Edge
Looking to get rid of Copilot in Edge? Here are all the working methods to disable or turn off Copilot Mode in Microsoft Edge on Windows and Mac.
Method 1: Enable or Disable Copilot from the Copilot Mode Page
Microsoft provides a dedicated page to toggle Copilot Mode.
- Open Edge and visit the Copilot Mode page.
- To turn Copilot off, turn off the toggle next to “You’re in Copilot Mode“.

This is the official method recommended by Microsoft.
Method 2: Turn Off Copilot Mode in Edge Settings
Here’s another simple way to disable Copilot in Edge:
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the three-dot menu (at the top right) and go to Settings.

- Select AI innovations from the left sidebar to access Copilot settings.
- Turn off the switch for Copilot Mode.

Doing so will disable AI-powered features linked to Copilot Mode across the browser.
Method 3: Disable Copilot Mode using edge://flags/
Edge’s experimental flags let you force-disable Copilot Mode even when Microsoft doesn’t offer a direct toggle.
- Open Edge and type edge://flags/ in the address bar and press Enter.
- Search for Copilot and look for the following flag: Edge Copilot Mode

- To disable the flag related to Copilot Mode, click its dropdown box and select Disabled.

- Click Restart to restart Edge and let the changes take effect.
This method works even if Copilot Mode is still rolling out or hidden in your region.
Tip: Hide the Copilot Icon from the Edge Toolbar
If you simply don’t want Copilot cluttering your toolbar, you can remove the Copilot icon from Microsoft Edge toolbar. To remove the Copilot icon in Edge:
- Right-click the Copilot icon in the top-right corner.
- Click Hide Copilot.

- Turn off the toggle next to “Show Copilot button on the toolbar“.

Alternate way – Go to Edge Settings > Appearance > Copilot and sidebar > Copilot (under “App specific settings”). Turn off the toggle for “Show Copilot button on the toolbar”.
Note that this will only hide the icon, but the Copilot mode and its features remain present.

How to Turn Off Copilot in Bing Search
If you’re not a fan of AI-generated answers appearing above traditional search results in Bing, you’re not alone. Many users have requested an option to revert to classic search.
Unfortunately, Bing does NOT provide any option to turn off Copilot Search results. This means:
- Bing search results may display AI-generated responses even if Copilot Mode is disabled in Edge.
- Copilot overlays and summaries appear whenever Bing detects informational queries.
- Switching browsers (Chrome/Firefox/Safari) also does not disable Copilot in Bing.
As a workaround, you can scroll past the AI-generated answer manually or use a different search engine as the default in Edge.
