The iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air use Face ID and have no Home button, so the way you turn them off differs from older iPhone models.

On these models, you need to press the Side button and a Volume button together to bring up the power-off screen.

This guide explains how to turn off, restart, and force restart the iPhone 17 series, with the same steps also applying to iPhone Air.

Quick answerTo turn off an iPhone 17, 17 Pro, or 17 Pro Max, press and hold the Side button and either Volume button until the power-off slider appears. Drag the slider to the right.

How to Power Off iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max

The quickest way to power off your iPhone 17 is to use the Side and Volume buttons.

  1. Press and hold the Side button and either the Volume Up or Volume Down button at the same time.Turn off iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 pro max

To force restart an iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, or iPhone 17 Pro Max:

  1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
  2. Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
  3. Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears, then release it.
